HOW TO PLAY OMAHA

Omaha is a community card game where the players combine their hole cards with the community cards on the table to make the best possible five-card hand. In Omaha there are four betting rounds. They are played in the exact way as in Texas Hold’em and also with the use of blinds and dealer button.

The big difference between Omaha and Texas Hold’em is that in Omaha you get four hole cards instead of two like in Texas Hold’em. In Omaha a player must use two of his hole cards with three of the five community cards to make a poker hand instead of as in Texas Hold’em where the players combine all seven cards to make a poker hand.

Omaha high is mostly played in pot limit structure, but sometimes though rarely in fixed limit.

In Pot Limit a player can bet up to the size of the pot. Minimum bet is either the size of the big blind or the size of a previous bet on the same betting round.

HOW A HAND IN OMAHA POKER IS PLAYED

At first, the dealer shuffles the cards and the blinds are posted. The blinds are the two players to the immediate left of the dealer. The first poker player posts the small blind and the second the big blind.

The dealer gives each player four cards face down and one at a time. The first betting round then begins with the player to the left of the big blind acting first. Betting then continues in clockwise until the last person has acted, which is the big blind.

On following rounds the first player to the left of the dealer acts first. The players can do the appropriate action at the moment. It’s among the following choices; fold, check, bet, call or raise.

When the first betting round has been finished the dealer lays out three open cards on the table, these are known as the flop. The second betting round begins and remaining players make the appropriate action until the last player has acted.

When the second betting round has been finished the dealer lays out one card face up on the table. This is the turn card. Betting resumes and ends when all players have made their move.

When the second betting round has finished the dealer lays out the fifth and last card face up on the table. Betting resumes as usual but when all players have made the appropriate action the player who bet or raised last shows his or hers cards. The other players fold or show their cards depending on if they have a better hand.

The player with the best poker hand (five-cards) wins the pot. To determine the hand a player must use two its hole cards together with three of the five community cards.

HOW TO PLAY OMAHA HIGH-LOW POKER

Omaha high-low is played in the same way with blinds and dealer button as in Omaha high and Texas Hold’em. There are four betting rounds in Omaha high-low. Omaha high-low is usually played in fixed limit structure or pot limit structure.

In Omaha High-Low there is a high hand pot and a low hand pot. The goal is to win both pots if possible. To win both pots a player must either have both the best high hand and the best low hand. There is also the possibility that no hand qualifies as the low hand, if so the high hand wins the entire pot.

The requirements for low hands are eight or better, which means all five cards must be eight or lower and all must be of different value (pairs don’t count as two low cards). Aces count as either low or high, straights and flushes don’t count in the low hand.

In Omaha high-low the players must use two cards for high hand and two cards for the low hand. The same card can be used to both pots, for example if a player has the A high flush, the Ace can also be used in a low hand.

If two players have the same low hand they split the low hand pot, the same goes for the high hand pot.

HOW TO PLAY SEVEN CARD STUD POKER

Seven-Card Stud is a stud poker variant with five betting rounds. Each player gets seven cards each, three cards face down and four faced up. The goal is to make the best possible poker hand (see hand ranking) to win the pot.

In Seven-Card Stud players post antes instead of blinds before the first cards are dealt. The player with the lowest card on Third Street has to pay an obligatory bring-in.

The size of the antes and bring-in varies a lot between different card rooms, but the standard is usually 1/10 of the big bet for antes and ½ a small bet for the bring-in. This is standard for the fixed limit structure which is the most common way Seven-Card Stud is played.

In contrary to the community card games like Texas Hold’em and Omaha, Seven-Card Stud is not played with a dealer button. This is because position is determined after each betting round.

On the first betting round it is the lowest card that acts first and on the following betting rounds it is the highest hand that makes the first move.

When the second betting round is finished the dealer gives remaining players one card faced up. The third betting round resumes and ends when all players have made their move.

When the third betting round is done the dealer gives remaining players one card faced up, this the last open card that is dealt.

Betting resumes and the player who made the last bet or raise show the face down cards first. The other players can fold or show their cards depending if they have a better hand.
