At first, the dealer shuffles the cards and the blinds are posted. The blinds are the two players to the immediate left of the dealer. The first player posts the small blind and the second the big blind.
The dealer gives each player four cards face down and one at a time. The first betting round then begins with the player to the left of the big blind acting first. Betting then continues in clockwise until the last person has acted, which is the big blind.
On following rounds the first player to the left of the dealer acts first. The players can do the appropriate action at the moment. It’s among the following choices; fold, check, bet, call or raise.
When the first betting round has been finished the dealer lays out three open cards on the table, these are known as the flop. The second betting round begins and remaining players make the appropriate action until the last player has acted.
When the second betting round has been finished the dealer lays out one card face up on the table. This is the turn card. Betting resumes and ends when all players have made their move.
When the second betting round has finished the dealer lays out the fifth and last card face up on the table. Betting resumes as usual but when all players have made the appropriate action the player who bet or raised last shows his or hers cards.
The other players fold or show their cards depending on if they have a better hand.
The player with the best poker hand (five-cards) wins the pot. To determine the hand a player must use two its hole cards together with three of the five community cards. A player can either win the high hand pot only, both high hand pot and low hand pot or the low hand pot only.
